Dr. David Jollie came to the Center for Scientific Review in June 2002. He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he worked with Dr. John Lipscomb studying the mechanism the metalloenzyme formate dehydrogenase isolated from the methanotrophic bacterium, Methyolsinus trichosporium OB3b. During his postdoctoral research, Dr. Jollie concentrated on how proteins modulate the observed oxidation/reduction potentials of iron-sulfur clusters at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, with Dr. Philip Stephens. He then moved to the University of Maryland, College Park to be an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He studied the chemical mechanism of benzoyl-CoA reductase (dearomatizing), an enzyme critical for the biodegradation of aromatic compounds, by the denitrifying bacterium Thauera aromatica.
