Dr. Karin Helmers is the Scientific Review Officer (SRO) for the Health of the Population Small Business Innovation Research applications and for the panel that evaluates applications responding to the research on ethics issues in human studies program announcements. She was the SRO for the Nursing Science: Children and Families study section. Before coming to CSR, she directed the Neuroscience and Sensory Conditions Program at the National Institute of Nursing Research. She received a Ph.D. in medical psychology from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where she studied the psychosocial correlates to cardiovascular responses. Before coming to NIH, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and continued her research with funding from the Medical Research Council of Canada in the Graduate Department of Exercise and Health Science at York University in Ontario, Canada.
