Biobehavioral Regulation, Learning, and Ethology Study Section

Dr. Melissa S. Gerald is the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Biobehavioral Regulation, Learning, and Ethology Study Section, for the Biobehavioral and Behavioral Processes Integrated Review Group. She received her Ph.D. in (biological) anthropology at UCLA, where she studied aspects of communication and the evolution of social behavior in primates. She received postdoctoral training in neuroendocrinology at the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Before returning to NIH, she was an associate professor at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus. From 2001-2007, she served as the scientist-in-charge of Cayo Santiago, which is part of the Caribbean Primate Research Center. In this capacity, she pursued an active research program devoted to primate coloration and communication, and she also conducted various studies related to the health of the population.
