Dr. Peter Perrin is the Scientific Review Officer for the Gastrointestinal Mucosal Pathobiology Study Section. After receiving his Ph.D. in parasitology at the University of Pennsylvania, studying granuloma formation in response to infection with the blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni, he continued immunoparasitology research during a postdoctoral fellowship. At the Naval Medical Research Institute, he pursued translational immunobiology research. During this time, he was also an assistant professor of medicine and microbiology and immunology at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. He then returned to the University of Pennsylvania as a faculty member in the Department of Medicine. His research was related to the areas of autoimmunity, tolerance, and immunopathology.
