Dr. Ping Fan serves as the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Instrumentation and Systems Development Study Section. He holds an M.D. from Harbin Medical University, China, and a Ph.D. in physiology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. Dr. Fan had postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. His research focused on physiological and pharmacological profiles of neurotransmitter receptors and drugs of abuse. Dr. Fan then worked on novel neuronal receptors and therapeutic proteins for Human Genome Sciences, Inc., before moving to Battelle Memorial Institute in Arlington, Virginia. There, he worked to develop healthcare data management systems and a Food and Drug Administration system for its tobacco program. Before returning to NIH, Dr. Fan was a senior scientist at Igen International, Inc., a Gaithersburg company developing medical diagnostic devices.
