Dr. Rass M. Shayiq is the Scientific Review Officer for CSR’s Hepatobilliary Pathophysiology Study Section. Prior to joining CSR, he was affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, where he was director of the Laboratory of Investigative Medicine in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. He has also been on the faculty of Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. After receiving his Ph.D. in biochemistry from India, Dr. Shayiq had postdoctoral training in the Department of Animal Biology, University of Pennsylvania. His research has focused on the biochemical and molecular characterization of a group of six constitutive and inducible isoforms of cytochrome P450 from rat hepatic mitochondria. However, the main focus of his reserach was to study the role of gene overlap, identified between physiologically important hepatic mitochondrial cytochrome P450c27 and serine protease inhibitors, in the translational and transcriptional regulation of cytochrome P450c27. He also investigated various aspects of acetaminophen toxicity and autoprotection.
