Dr. Berti is the Scientific Review Officer for the Small Business: Bacterial, Fungal and Parasitic Diseases Special Emphasis Panel. She came to this position after participating in the CSR's Review Internship Program in the Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Integrated Review Group. She previously was a research associate at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research where she studied the inflammatory processes associated with brain trauma and stroke. Before she was an intramural scientist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke where she worked on the role of viral infection in multiple sclerosis. Dr. Berti received a Master's degree in biology and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Genoa (Italy). She conducted predoctoral studies on antibiotic susceptibility in oral streptococci and on classification of marine bacteria, both at the University of Genoa and at Temple University in Philadelphia.
