Stephen M. Nigida, Jr., Ph.D. is a Scientific Review Officer in CSR’s Immunologic Sciences Integrated Review Group. Dr. Nigida received his doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Illinois and Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Centers in Chicago, Illinois. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Comparative Medicine, he joined the Emory University (Atlanta) School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He received an appointment as a guest researcher at the Centers for Disease Control. He was subsequently recruited to head the Viral Diseases and Immunity Section within the AIDS Vaccine Program at the National Cancer Institute’s Frederick Cancer Research and Development Center. He was responsible for the evaluation in chimpanzees of the efficacy of potential vaccines against HIV infection. He is a member of Sigma Xi, AAAS, the American Society for Microbiology, and the American Association of Immunologists and has published extensively on the immune recognition of viral infections.
